Laser Acne Treatment Columbus, Ohio
Using Broadband Light (BBL) To Improve Skin Texture
Topical creams, oral medications and online home remedies — if you are tired of experimenting with these solutions, you may be a candidate for laser acne treatment. Our providers use controlled broadband light to treat both pigmented lesions (freckles or age spots) and vascular lesions (small blood vessels).
This treatment can also minimize the appearance of acne, remove unwanted hair and act as an effective laser acne solution for the back and face.
Our Experts Will Walk You Through How It Works
During this innovative acne therapy, the Sciton BBL laser is passed over your skin using three different filters. First, a blue filter is used to target the p-acnes bacteria, one of the main causes of acne. Next, a red filter is used to reduce redness and decrease the appearance of deeper acne lesions. Finally, a third filter is used to target sebaceous gland activity and reduce oil production in acne-prone areas.
FAQs About Laser Acne Treatments
-
The ideal number of treatments varies from patient to patient; however, a common BBL acne treatment plan involves a series of three to five treatments spaced two to four weeks apart. Most patients also require touch-up treatments every one to six months, depending on severity.
We will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your skin type and goals, and BBL can be combined with additional dermatological treatments accordingly.
-
If the BBL treatment is targeting active acne on your face, you will wear special glasses or safety shields to protect your eyes. You may feel heat from the laser, or a sensation similar to being snapped by a rubber band; however, the procedure is not generally painful.
A topical anesthetic cream may be applied if you are targeting sensitive areas.
-
BBL laser treatment recovery and aftercare are minimal, as the procedure is gentle and non-invasive. You may experience some reddening and swelling of your acne and surrounding skin for one to two days after the treatment; however, there is no downtime required. You can apply makeup immediately, in most cases, and return to your work and normal activities.
Anti-inflammatory medicines such as Aspirin should be avoided, as well as strenuous exercise, contact sports and alcohol.
Additional Sun Protection Will Be Necessary
Although you should always protect your skin from the sun, extra care should be taken after BBL treatments. Your skin will be extra sensitive to ultra-violet (UV) light, so you should avoid tanning in the sun or tanning beds for one month after each BBL session. Also, protect your skin daily by applying broad-spectrum sunblock with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
-
The cost of BBL acne treatments again depends on your individualized situation. Prices will vary based on the type, location, severity and primary causes of your acne. They will also be determined by the number of initial BBL sessions and touch-up treatments required, as well as your skin’s response and how well you protect your skin after treatments.
The cost of an average spot treatment is about $350. A single full-face treatment costs between $500 – $600.
